CN: BG Group is a leading global gas company, with operations in 27 countries across five continents. BG Nigeria has been in operation since 2005. Please outline BG Nigeria's corporate history since it started operations in the country.
Mr. Ademola Adeyemi-Bero: BG Nigeria is part of BG Group, a world leader in natural gas, with a strategy focussed on connecting competitively priced resources to specific, high-value markets. BG Group has a broad portfolio of exploration and production, liquefied natural gas (LNG), transmission and distribution and power generation assets. BG combines a deep understanding of gas markets with a proven track record in finding and commercialising reserves. BG Nigeria is aiming to leverage this global track record to establish a sustainable business for BG in Nigeria.
In January 2006, BG signed a Production Sharing Contract (PSC) for Block OPL 332 with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), which resulted in BG acquiring a 45% participating interest in, and operatorship of, the deep water block. The PSC followed a farm-in agreement with Sahara Exploration and Production Limited (Sahara).
In March 2007, BG Group signed a PSC and associated downstream MoU for Block OPL 286-DO with NNPC. BG Group, together with Sahara, was awarded licence OPL286-DO in the May 2006 Nigerian Mini Licensing Round. The licence is located in deep water close to the giant Bonga field, offshore Nigeria.
While we are now progressing the exploration phase in our operated blocks, we continue to evaluate further upstream opportunities in Nigeria.
